About Us
A Voice For The Voiceless
At KAWS our mission is simple: to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome neglected and unwanted pets across Rooi Els, Pringle Bay, Betty’s Bay, Kleinmond, and Salandra. We’re dedicated to improving animal welfare through ethical practices, sterilisation programs, and community education.
We provide a safe haven for homeless and surrendered animals, ensuring they receive the medical care, love, and attention they deserve until we find them their forever homes. Together, with our dedicated volunteers and supporters, we strive to create a community where every pet has a chance at a better life.
Our History
A Legacy of Compassion
In 2001, the plight of neglected pets in Kleinmond and surrounding areas caught the attention of Yvonne Pretorius, a 70-year-old with an unwavering passion for animal welfare. Recognising the dire need for support, Yvonne partnered with the local municipality to establish KAWS, a beacon of hope for pets in Rooi Els, Pringle Bay, Betty’s Bay, Kleinmond, and Salandra.
What began as one woman’s mission has grown into a thriving organisation with a dedicated team of volunteers, veterinary professionals, and community members, all working tirelessly to make a difference. Today, KAWS continues to honour Yvonne’s vision by advocating for ethical animal care and empowering the communities we serve.
